These two women were friends who lived together in the same house and were each delivered of a baby the same period. One of them overlaid her baby at night and the child died. To overlay means to press down to the point of covering. At one time or another you must have had a similar experience of being pressed down when asleep, especially at night. You try to lift up yourself but you can’t because you were overlaid by an evil presence. You try to call the name Jesus but nobody hears you until you suddenly wake up. It also means to wear a costume or mask to disguise or to put on a veil to hide your identity. In 2 Cor. 11:14-15, we are told that Satan disguises as angel of light. It is not surprising, therefore, to know that his agents do the same thing even when they know that they will be condemned in judgment. Masquerades are powers or evil personalities that cover themselves with a veil whenever they attack their victims. They use the cover of the night to attack their victims. This includes witches and wizards, ancestral demons or even close associates operating with demonic powers. They can use the face of a familiar person to attack you, while their true identity remains unknown. It is indeed the dark place of the earth and as such full of lies, robbery and torture. In addition to this, our Bible text says that they fire spears and swords at victims, resulting in a multitude of casualties and death. This explains why you sometimes dream of being shot with a gun or spear only to wake up and feel terrible pains on that same spot. What happens in the spiritual realm manifests physically. Some persons we see who are sick physically were afflicted by the coven and such sickness oftentimes defy medical solution.
