Dealing with foundational problems – Part 2
Text: Jer. 16:1-11
Foundational problems are deep-rooted problems that can be traced to ones’ parents or ancestors. In our text, we see that the people never knew the cause of their problems until they make enquires and are told that their fathers had forsaken the Living God, going after other gods.
There are numerous examples of foundational problems recorded in the scriptures. One of them is the case of Jericho, as we see in 2Kings 2:19.
The people cried to Elisha that the town is seemingly good and well located, yet unproductive and the water is bad. This describes the situation of many people today; they appear to be doing well, but in actual fact are barren all round. Understand that your life is likened to a farmland (Matt. 13:25) where God has planted a lot of resources (wheat), but the activities of the evil ones (planting tares) will not let you manifest your true worth. Your life is full of great potentials, but sometimes, such potentials never come to reality. This is why many who have the potential to be multi-millionaires die as paupers. When potentials cannot manifest, such a person is declared as barren and such was the case of Jericho because there was a curse on the land earlier on in Joshua 6:26, 1Kings 16:34 and so, anything planted there dies.
For some persons, everything you invest in them dies because there is a hidden curse of “thou shall not excel” operating in their lives. May every hidden curse hindering your progress in life be broken today in Jesus’ name.
The water of the land was bitter and so undrinkable, this implies that you have everything that ought to bring you joy in life, yet you have no joy.
When they cried to Elisha, the curse was broken. You need a man of God who stands as priest to intercede in your life. The Bible says we are kings and priest (Rev. 1:6), yet in certain situations when you have struggled on your own without result, you need the help of an authority figure. Hosea 12:13 says, by a prophet God brought Israel out of Egypt and by a prophet He preserved them. You need a prophet for the sustenance of your breakthrough and this you do, not by mere connection to Him, but as you learn to follow His instructions faithfully with your heart, not your head. Many people are in the church today, yet withering away gradually because they follow the teachings of the word of God with their head, and not their hearts. They have become church professors. Your connectivity matters a lot.
Another example of foundational problems is seen in the case of Abiathar the priest in 1Kings 2:27. God made a pronouncement against the house of Eli for his failure to rebuke and correct his children over their nefarious and sinful activities in the temple (1Sam 3:14). About four generations after them, we see the consequences of such actions come to play in the life of Abiathar in spite of his faithfulness and diligent service with David.
The powers from your foundation can manipulate you to make a mistake that will cause you some lifetime regrets. A family had a pregnant maid who was subjected to hard labour without proper care. She gave birth to a male child, who died a few hours after birth and in that pain, cursed that there would be no cry of a male child in that family. It took a member of that family some time of intense prayers and great spiritual insight to break that curse years after. By reason of redemption and the new birth, we can be disconnected from every family curse and connected to the Abrahamic covenant.

Text: Jer. 16:1-11
The powers from one’s foundation can manipulate one to make a mistake one can regret making throughout one’s life.
A family had a pregnant maid who was subjected to hard labour without proper care. She gave birth to a male child, but lost it and in that pain, issued a curse that there would be no cry of a male child in that family. It took a member of that family some time of intense prayers and great spiritual insight to break that curse years later. She understood that by the reason of redemption and the new birth in Christ, we can be disconnected from every family curse and be connected to the Abrahamic covenant.
There are certain effects of foundational problems we need to understand. First of all, it can hinder your progress as a person. Secondly, it has the capacity to take a person’s life. We see how during the reign of Ahab, the first child of Hiel, died mysteriously and the last child followed suit as a result of a curse. Thirdly, it is capable of destroying one’s destiny. Jer. 29:11 tells us that God has prepared a future for us and that is your destiny, but many persons are unable to fulfil that future because of a faulty foundation. May God destroy such a foundation and set you on a new platform to rise to the next level in Jesus’ name. The fourth effect of the foundational problem is that it has the capacity to make the first become the last. We see that in the case of Reuben in Gen. 49:1-3 and 1 Chron. 5:1. May God turn every negative tide for your good in Jesus’ name?
So many things can open doors to foundational problems in the life of a man. One of them is idol worship. We can see this in Jer. 16:11 of our Bible text. If your parents were idolaters and you never did anything about it after your conversion to Christ, be sure that such a foundation will cause you some problems. Another cause is the existence of witches or wizards in your parentage; this includes your direct parents, grand or great grandparents. Nahum 3:4, tells us that witches can sell out their families and even nations through witchcraft. If that explains your situation, may God cancel it, today, in Jesus’ name? Again, if you have a foundation of marine worshippers this can introduce foundational problems into your life. The power behind the operations of Pharaoh was marine power because he was a marine worshipper. He was known to always go to the river in the early hours of the day, as we see in Exo. 7:15, 8:20 and 9:13. Hence, God sent Moses to rise up early in the mornings to stand before him. Such marine worship brought a grave effect upon him and even the whole nation of Egypt, as expressed in Ezk. 29; 2-3.
Again, when God asked Moses to stretch forth his rod to the river in Ex 7:19-20 the great dragon, Leviathan was destroyed, all the firstborn of Egypt were killed and the people suffered grave consequences while the Israelites were released to go and serve God. I pray for you that every power holding you down from fulfilling your destiny will be destroyed today in Jesus’ name.

In Joshua 6:26, Joshua cursed Jericho, stating that anyone who tried to rebuild the city will lay the foundation with his first born and set up the gates with his youngest son. About four generations later, in 1kings 16:34, during the reign of King Ahab, Hiel made an attempt to build the city. When he laid the foundation, his first son Abiram died and his last son, Segub was not spared according to the prophecy. They offered help not knowing there was an underlying foundational issue. Understand that whosoever God curses, it is difficult to bless him/her.
From our Bible text, Jer.16:1-11, we see that God instructed this people not to marry from a particular group or have any dealings with them to avoid partaking in their curses. Often times, when we see things happen around us, we tend to think they are just part of normal life experiences or even coincidences; little do we understand that there are underlying powers in operation.
Hiel lost his first and last sons, while trying to build the city yet the city never got any better. It looked good and pleasant to the eyes, yet barren and unproductive to its inhabitants until it dawned on them that something was wrong and they cried to the man of God in 2Kings 2:19.
It is important to identify things that can cause foundational problems in ones life or a group of people.
Apart from curses, evil dedication can lead to foundational problems. This means to set something or someone aside to a deity for a specific purpose and when this is done, demons are released to supervise and secure him/her or it. Any dedication to a deity, spirit or power other than God is an evil dedication. Parents or grandparents who served Satan or demon usually dedicate their children to the deity hence demonic spirits are assigned to ensure the children remain in their custody and are often times being tormented.
Also, evil oaths and covenants taken can lead to foundational problems. A man can stand on behalf of every member of his family to take covenants that are detrimental to the destinies of everyone.
Finally, evil soul ties can cause foundational problems.
To put an end to all of these, you need knowledge of what you are dealing with. This you can get not only from the scripture, but from the Holy Spirit who will reveal to you the secret of your life.
Revelation is very powerful, but in all get the new birth and go to God in repentance. You also need to restitute, while you engage in warfare.
Finally, you raise an altar by sacrifice. Battles cannot be won without altars. Spirits are attracted to altars and when you live holy you are building a godly altar, Romans 12:1. Altars cannot work for you unless powered by sacrifice. Sow a good seed that can cancel every negative power from your foundation. “I decree that every strange thing that has been happening in your foundation is cancelled today, and you and your children will begin to build on a solid foundation in Jesus’ name.”
